Teachings of the Ocean: Surrender

13.10.2022

Letting go, accepting things as they are in the moment eventually makes it easier to breath and flow.

I remember the morning i saw dolphins in the wild for the first time. Jumping and swimming fast through the waves effortlessly, a big pod, twelve or more of them. Sun was glimmering in the sand with shades of soft orange and rose, tender colors of the rising sun. Ocean was stronger there, waves were forceful, even the water tasted saltier.
That morning I got caught under a wave, the strenght of it knocked my body down, and for awhile I felt completely helpless spiraling down in all directions. There was no up or down, time was lost in the sensory chaos that felt like an eternity. When I stopped fighting against the current, the weight of my body pulled me up. Shaking and puking I watched how the shore looked tiny in the distance.

Letting go, accepting things as they are in the moment eventually makes it easier to breath and flow. Resistance is a natural way to react to emotional pain, anxiety and fear, but leads to suffering. There is a place of surrender and acceptance to come to, a breath that reminds of Now. Only way out is through.
